Entry Requirements
Certificate in Computer Programming
The one year certificate level covers practical programming, general computer theory and operating aspects
The ACP stipulates that applicants must have attained a satisfactory standard of secondary education (including a sound grasp of the English Language and a basic level of Numeracy). It is our experience that students are usually best suited to this course if they have achieved the equivalent of A-C grades at GCSE level or if they have some previous experience of computer programming.
Diploma in Computer System Design
ACP Certificate in Computer Programming or the equivalent of 2-3 A levels together with some experience in Computer Programming
Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies
ACP Diploma in Computer System Design or an equivalent diploma/degree

Equating the ACP qualification to others
The ACP combined Certificate & Diploma qualification equates with either three A Levels; the BTEC National Diploma or the IMIS Diploma and, accordingly, fits into the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a Level 3 qualification.
The ACP Advanced Diploma equates with Edexcel Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Computing (HND), The IMIS Higher Diploma (new syllabus)/IMIS Graduate Diploma or a foundation degree in computing. As such, it fits into the National Qualications Framework (NQF) at (revised) Level 5.
Course Structure
Certificate in Information Technology and Programming

Candidates are required to obtain a pass grade in three written papers, each carrying 100 marks and of two and a half hours duration, plus a practical programming project (100 marks).

The programme is designed to be completed in 40 teaching weeks. Each term is thirteen weeks plus an examination week and a one week break.
The programme will involve three main areas of study
Diploma in Information Systems and Design

Candidates are required to obtain a pass grade in three written papers, each carrying 100 marks and of two and a half hours duration plus a practical component comprising six individual assignments - two from each subject.

The programme is designed to be completed in approximately 40 teaching weeks. Each term is thirteen weeks plus an examination week and a one week break.
The programme will involve 3 main areas of study
Advanced Diploma in Computer Science

Candidates are required to obtain a pass grade in three written papers, each carrying 100 marks and of two and a half hours duration and a practical component (100 marks) comprising an individual and a programming project.

This programme is normally taught after the completion of either the Certificate in Information Technology and Programming course or the Diploma in Information Systems Analysis and Design course.
